Meet Ruth

Hi, I'm Ruth and it's lovely to meet you.

Having a baby is one of the most profound and intense experiences of one's life! It can feel overwhelming, challenging and even scary. However, with the right support, it can be an empowering and positive experience.

I am a parent of three children, and I’ve been right where you are now. I totally understand how emotional the pregnancy to parenthood journey can be- there’s so much to wrap your thoughts around!
I can offer support through it all!
I am a Toronto based Birth and Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Infant Sleep and Breastfeeding Educator. I have experience working with OBs and midwives in all kinds of birth settings – from hospital to home. I am also a Certified Pilates Instructor (STOTT) and Master Instructor (Teacher Trainer) for Balanced Body Pilates, specializing in Prenatal and Postpartum Pilates and exercise.

I have been teaching people to move and become more connected to their bodies for over 25 years. Through the Pilates method, bodywork and dance I have enjoyed instructing and watching many bodies change, stay functional and become powerful humans. My personal movement practice and body-awareness was a huge asset when I gave birth to each of my three children. As was the incredible support team that encouraged me through each pregnancy to parenthood experience.

I know how deeply the birth experience impacts families and I want each family I work with to have a story that they love to tell. Whether I am working with you through a Pilates practice to prepare you for labour, birth, and recovery, as your Doula or both, my goal is always to help you create support. Creating support within your body by building muscular balance, good posture and strength. Creating support through information, emotional and physical support. All while respecting your intuition and choices with zero judgment. Having a Doula should feel like an experienced friend who helps you and your family feel grounded and calm through the unpredictable business of birth and parenthood. I'll always have your back!

Education is at the centre of my approach, both for my clients and myself. I believe that knowledge is power and that informing our minds and bodies will help build an extraordinary life experience.

Offer Reassurance & Calm  It's guaranteed that you will have lots of questions about your pregnancy, birth and your new baby.  Can I drink red raspberry leaf tea? How do I avoid tearing?   Does this baby poo look okay?  (FYI you will become obsessed with your baby's poo!) A birth and postpartum doula will help you navigate the ups and downs of all of these stages, offering hands on support to make sure you are relaxed and at ease.

Calling on the most up to date and relevant information, my professional expertise will help answer any and all of your questions, decipher terminology, and act as a friendly guide. At all stages of your pregnancy and birth, you will know what is being offered, what questions to ask care providers and what normal, in all its variations, can look like.

I take on a limited number of birth doula clients each month so as to be able to fully serve each one. It’s never too early in pregnancy to sign-on – it’ll ensure you don’t miss out on a spot, and that you get the most out of your prenatal support! I also offer payment plans upon request.
